Eulogy for Bones by Omega Disclaimer: Paramount owns Dr. McCoy. Summary: My eulogy for Dr. McCoy. This was sparked by De Kelly's recent death. Here's to the old country doctor we all know and love and whom he brought to life. ******************** He was a doctor, dammit, not a....whatever. He specialized in healing broken bodies, not souls. Yet somehow, he was able to do both. His love for life underpinned everything that he did. He may have had a really big mouth, but he knew how to use it. He cut through the fogs that surrounded his friends and was able to reach the heart of the problem. He also knew when to step back and let nature take its course. He healed millions, but sadly was unable to heal himself. Pain drove him away from Earth, to Starfleet. He was afraid to trust and found comfort in the bottle. Luckily for him, he was pulled out of that before he destroyed himself. Consequently, he became the greatest surgeon that Starfleet had ever had. But in his mind, he was just "an old country doctor." An old country doctor who had a very big heart. His heart expanded to include a self- isolated captain, a lonely half-Vulcan, and a crew made of gold. He succeeded at everything that was asked of him. Not many people can say that. Dr. McCoy, I give you an old Irish blessing: "May the road always rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. The sun shine warm upon your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand." I hope that now, you'll be able to heal yourself. Godspeed, Bones.
